A month or so ago we were all excited about the news of the Royal Wedding between William and Kate to be held on April 29th. We were even happier when they announced that the day would be a public holiday, so many are making a real occasion out of the day! We’ve now found out that some towns and cities are planning street parties to celebrate the event and that some of them are theming the day! The first city we’ve heard to be holding a street party is Cardiff. With a royal wedding this street party is determined to make it that bit more special ditching vol-au-vents in exchange for a hog roast. The street party have set a "Medieval" theme for the event which signifies the royal family through the ages: Victoria Park Pub off Cowbridge Road East have already contacted to the council regarding their quest to obtain permission for the event.
Julie Cornock, assistant manager, said: "We are about to put flyers through all the doors in the street just to let them know we will be closing it off for the street party, so they have an opportunity to let us know if they have any objections. …we are selling tickets for it because as you can understand we need funding. We will see how much money we get, to see if we can have street entertainers. We are looking for sponsors, we get quite a few businesses that come to drink here….the Royal Family have gone on years and years – everyone has always celebrated a royal wedding so we just thought it would be nice to go back in time."
Canton councillor Ramesh Patel said: "We have had several street parties in Canton over the years. We have always supported them in the past, I think it’s a great way to get the whole community together. I won’t be going in medieval dress but I would be happy to attend." (Source).
We stock loads of medieval costumes for men and women, which will be ideal for celebrating the street parties. We even do royal costumes along with facemasks such as prince Charles and Camilla, so if you want to get behind the occasion, our fancy dress masks are ideal.
Is anyone planning on organising a street party for the royal wedding? If so let us know your plans and we might mention it on one of our blog posts.
