Carving a pumpkin and leaving it out on Halloween evening is one of the long standing traditions of Halloween. It’s a fun activity for both children and adults and is the perfect way to enter into the spirit of Halloween at very little cost. Below you will find our step by step guide to carving a fantastic Halloween pumpkin!
Steps
> There are loads of outlets that sell seasonal pumpkins especially the major supermarkets so there’s plenty of choice, which should allow you find the perfect sized pumpkin. First off you need to pick your pumpkin – make sure you have the right size and shape suited to where it will sit once decorated!

> Next draw a circular or hexagonal shape on the top of your pumpkin in preparation for making a large opening big enough to fit your hand through which will enable you to gut out the flesh later.

> Using a sharp knife cut through the stem end of the pumpkin along the outline you have made. It’s important to use a sharp knife as you will find the skin is tough to cut through and using a sharp knife will help avoid accidents.
> Remove the stem which will act as a cap, making sure you scrape off any excess pulp. The newly formed “head” of the pumpkin you have created should easily lift off and enable you to scoop out the flesh.

> Find a large spoon and proceed to scoop out the flesh and seeds from the pumpkin. Don’t forget if you’re a foodie then keep the flesh for later as it can used to make a wonderful soup perfect for serving on October 31st!
> The next part is where the skill comes in, as you will have to design and implement a Halloween themed design on your pumpkin. First of all draw your design on the pumpkin face using a thin felt tip pen or thick pencil. Remember, entrecote detailing on a pumpkin is difficult as cutting through the tough skin takes time so try not to get too adventurous.
> Follow your pattern being careful not to cut towards you using preferably two different size blades – one small for entrecote details and one big for features such as the nose, mouth and eyes.

> Push through the cut out features from the inside of the pumpkin.
> Last of all place a candle inside the pumpkin to create an eerie glow and place somewhere where you can show it off!
