When you ask someone to define what’s special about Christmas you will often get a variety of different answers. Many people celebrate Christmas in many different ways and Christmas symbolises different things to people. For some folks, Christmas is about celebrating Christianity, for others it’s about family time and for others it’s about giving and receiving etc! If you type in into Google “Christmas” the first result that shows is the trusted Wikipedia Christmas page that defines Christmas as the following:

Christmas or Christmas Day is a holiday[5][6][7] generally observed on December 25 (with alternative days of January 6, 7 and 19[2]) to commemorate the birth of Jesus, the central figure of Christianity.[8][9] The exact birthday of Jesus is not known, and historians place his year of birth some time between 7 BC and 2 BC. Narratives of his birth are included in two of the Canonical gospels in the New Testament of the Bible.

The date of Christmas, chosen by the Roman Catholic Church in the 4th century, may have initially been selected to correspond with either the day exactly nine months after Christians believe Jesus to have been conceived,[10] the date of the Roman winter solstice,[11] or one of various ancient winter festivals.[10][12] Christmas is central to the Christmas and holiday season, and in Christianity marks the beginning of the larger season of Christmastide, which lasts twelve days.[13]

Although nominally a Christian holiday, Christmas is celebrated by an increasing number of non-Christians worldwide,[1][14][15] and many of its popular celebratory customs have pre-Christian or secular themes and origins. Popular modern customs of the holiday include gift-giving, music, an exchange of Christmas cards, church celebrations, a special meal, and the display of various decorations; including Christmas trees, lights, garlands, mistletoe, nativity scenes, and holly. In addition, several figures, known as Saint Nicholas, Father Christmas, and Santa Claus, among other names, are associated with bringing gifts to children during the Christmas season.[16]

With a strong religious grounding, Christmas is celebrated by many countries around the world including countries with different religions such as India. There’s all sorts of things that get us into the Christmas spirit and for us folks here at Ace Fancy Dress there’s nothing like Christmas music to get you into the Christmas mood. You know that it’s Christmas when you start to see all the classic TV Christmas ads crop up on the telly and thankfully this year we haven’t noticed them so early (i.e. in the summer months)! One of the coolest adverts is the classic Coca Cola advert with that magical signature theme tune “holidays are coming, holidays are coming” that shows the red faced Santa Claus lugging down a good old bottle of Cola whilst on his Christmas rounds, we guess he needs the calories?

As we approach the back end of November the major retailers are laying on the Christmas adverts thick and fast, and so far this year our favourite has to be the new John Lewis advert which includes a classic song by the Smiths “Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want” reworked by an independent songwriter. The advert sees a young boy going through the familiar process of counting down the Christmas month with more anticipation than you can shake a stick at! As a viewer you think that he’s just looking forward to receiving a visit from Father Christmas and all the other magical adventures that Christmas brings. However when the big day arrives the young boy skips past the presents at the end of his bed and reaches into his own wardrobe to pull out a large gift, he then proceeds straight to his parent’s bedroom to present them his gift with the tag line that reads “For gifts you can’t wait to give”. Within a couple of hours of its first airing the advert received over 420,000 on YouTube reportedly leaving many in tears including celebrities Cat Deeley and Phillip Schofield. With the advert attracting ample amounts of media attention, reporters turned to interviewing the child actor’s parents who insist that their son is almost playing himself:

The boys father Stuart McGowan told reporters: “He is such a great wee boy. He is just like the boy in the advert- so kind and always thinking of others. He is just so natural in front of a camera…”He and his big brother are always running about making films. I think that’s why Lewis is so relaxed [in the advert] as he has spent years acting the part of a zombie”.

Not only did the advert cause a stir with the public but some Morrissey fans were left fuming claiming that their idol “sold out” by selling the rights of the song to the massive corporate powerhouse that is John Lewis. We say who cares! When it comes to good music, a little boys Christmas anticipation and the satisfaction that comes from giving gifts – John Lewis have capitulated the spirit of Christmas perfectly! Well done John Lewis!

As we continue to plow through the year faster than the Orient Express, it’s almost scary to think that we’re less than one month away from the sacred month of the year – CHRISTMAS. Unlike the big high street retailers and your local gastro pub, we don’t like to advertise Christmas products when it’s not actually Christmas. Mentioning no names, the earliest advertisement we saw this year was in August – that’s the height of summer for crying out loud! With that said, it’s time for us to start promoting our wonderful range of Christmas fancy dress and accessories to all of our adoring fancy dress fans. As ever, our merchandise team here at Ace HQ has been busy looking through catalogue upon catalogue searching for the coolest new Christmas costume ideas and one theme that’s standing out is the new sexy ranges of Christmas outfits! This year we’re going to be ordering in a variety of different style costumes for both men and women providing the best possible choice online and having received some interesting feedback from customers, it has become clear that the sexy style of outfits for women are ever so popular. With this is mind we’re going to do our best in supplying you some of the sexiest Christmas costumes that money can buy…

Browsing through the online tabloids as we normally do, we noticed that even a certain celebrity has been dressing up in sexy Christmas attire! Katie Price was photographed wearing a very sexy Christmas outfit on the day of her book launch yesterday, which included a carriage pulled by Reindeer! The business savvy mum looked drop dead gorgeous as she posed for the cameras at a swanky London studio. Miss Price’s new book focuses on her popular character Angel Summer but, although it’s billed as her 45th book, it’s actually another ghost-written story. But if you want to emulate this sexy Christmas look, you know where to start!..
