Whilst the summer sun maybe popping out from time to time, albeit for not very long!! There are two things that are guaranteed this summer, and unlike the British summer weather, these are now becoming a sure thing ….it is of course Stag parties and Hen-do’s.

We love a stag/hen-do party here at Ace HQ and none took our eye quite like these two over the weekend. Mike Tindall, England rugby star who is set to marry the Queen’s grand-daughter Zara Phillips, is clearly enjoying his stag party where 10 of his pals have headed to the sunnier climes of Miami, Florida, and reportedly racked up a staggering £20,000 bar bill over the space of just 5 hours (bet he had a stinking headache in the morning)! Another celeb enjoying their last moments before married life is Kate Moss, the supermodel has also been indulging herself and guests in the finer things in life with large supplies of alcohol. Guests including Jade Jagger & Meg Matthews got into the party spirit where the theme was ‘Kate’s Big Fat Gypsy Hen Night’ at the Isle of White festival, where excess was priority!

Comic Relief – An After Thought

Having stayed in and watched the festivities of comic relief take place on Friday night, it was no surprise that I awoke on the sofa at 02.30am in the morning like I do every comic relief with half a glass of wine by my side – I just hope I didn’t miss anything good! Each and every time that comic relief takes place (every two years) I’m amazed to see how much generosity that the British public are willing to give, especially in these tough economic times! Not only this, but I’m amazed at the lengths that celebrities are prepared to go to in order to raise money for charity. This year was certainly no exception and comic relief raised a staggering total of £74 million pounds! I think that you will agree that this is a phenomenal amount of money, a feat that people can be proud of. During difficult times it’s fantastic to see how people respond – an example is that of the recent Tsunami in Japan. People all around the world have donated millions of pounds to help with the recovery and many others have flown out there to help with the rescue efforts. Sporting matches have held one minute’s silences to show respect to the victims – one thing is for sure, we’re certainly strong when we unite as a unit!

How Was Comic Relief For You?

Good Morning All!

We hope you’re all doing well and enjoying your weekend. So a big night of fund raiding last night for a real worthy cause – how was it for you? We would like to say a massive thank you to all of our loyal customers who got involved this year in raising money for a real worthy cause. We have supplied fancy dress costumes in all sorts of styles this week everything from the normal to the damn right outrageous – what ever works for raising money is fine by us!

It was a real good effort by the radio 1 team this year with Chris Moyles and comedy Dave putting in over 50 hours on live radio – a Radio 1 record. The finale was sexy lady Ferne Cotton wearing a sexy swimsuit in order to stomp up the cash for the last stretch and they managed to raise nearly £600,000 in 10 minutes! The radio 1 crew raised around the £2.4m mark which is just unbelievable! Newsreader Dom tweeted:

“What an honour to be part of the marathon show on Radio1. Over 2.4 million raised for comic relief. Chris and Dave deserve a very big sleep!”

Once again well done to everyone who got involved!

Comic Relief In The Slums

Did anyone see BBC comic relief in the slums on Thursday evening? It was so heart warming and shocking at the same time. Some famous UK celebrities spent some time living with some families in Kenya to experience their existence including comic relief front man Lenny Henry and Reggy Yates from BBC radio 1. The programme highlighted the poverty and hardship that still exists and the programme really made you feel happy for what you have here as the people over there have very little. In one of the scenes Lenny Henry decided to buy a new house for the family that he had been spending some time with to provide them with a better future all bought from his own money. When they moved the family’s possessions it showed just how little they owned – their stuff was stuffed into boxes which ended up being about three small boxes. If you move house in this country you have to employee an entire work force!

We’ve mentioned on the blog a few times that comic relief is getting even closer and many businesses are starting to think about things that they can do to raise money and it’s not too late of course to get your fancy dress costumes and accessories. Red Nose Day Costumes

Morning All!

Uh Monday morning blues – oh well it has been a good weekend of FA cup and relaxing by the fire with the Sunday papers so can’t complain too much! We’ve got another busy week lined up in the fancy dress game this week so we’re very much looking forward to getting on with our tasks! This week you will see our new leg avenue lines go onto our website and we’re doing everything we can to prepare for this years red nose day. Red nose day is not far off and is being held on 18th March and it would appear that everyone is getting prepared for some serious fund raising!

For anyone who doesn’t know anything about red nose day, it’s a fund raising day that takes place every two years in Britain, where people all up and down the UK do their bit to raise funds for the lives of poor and disadvantaged people across the UK and Africa. It’s quite simply a day when literally every penny counts as all the money raised goes towards helping a variety of causes, everything from restoring the sight of children in Africa to giving the elderly the support they need to enjoy their retirement.

Unlike many of our competitors we’ve tried to make things easy by creating our very own unique red nose day fancy dress sections for men and women. Here you will find all of our red fancy dress costumes and accessories that we stock, which are fantastic to wear in attempt to raise funds on the day. We have had loads of calls in particular from businesses that have purchased bulk orders of fancy dress and accessories to use on the day. So why not do your bit this year for a fantastic cause? Our staff here at Ace Fancy Dress will be wearing red wigs all day to help raise some money for the cause so look out for the pics!

Poker Night Is On!

When the weekend comes we all like to let off a bit of steam and forget about the stresses that the week before has applied on our daily lives. Weather busy at work or at home, for some people the weekend brings a much-needed break to help us re-energise and do much important household chores and efforts with loved ones. This week we’ve been extremely busy in the fancy dress game, frantically adding new lines to the website. You may remember our blog post the day after new year when we told you our new years resolutions, one being to add 50 new lines onto the website every week. This week we have added everything from cave girl fancy dress costumes to some rather cool fancy dress accessories and wigs. Next week we look to build on this by continuing to add more and more new fancy dress costumes. Check out the new lines that have gone on this week and see what you think – there to be found on our fancy dress ideas page.

This weekend, the staff here at Ace Fancy Dress have decided to hold a poker night which has been inspired by some of the new lines we’ve added to our website. Last week we added some rather cool casino related costumes including our Ace of Spades costume and Joker In The Deck outfit. We’re hoping that you will find some of our new lines of good value as we try to offer cheapest prices online. We’re partial to a bit of poker here at Ace Fancy Dress, as it’s a cheap night and is a fun way of keeping up with friends. For those of you that don’t know how the game is played here is some good information on how to play poker.

VAT Increase – We’re Not Passing It On

So we all new that it was going to happen sooner or later – the dreaded VAT increase! We have taken a firm interest in this problem since the economy reached the depth’s of the recession and VAT was reduced to 15%. Now that it has been put up to an all time high of 20% we have made the decision not to pass this on to you lot! In order to do this we have had to reduce some of our stock holding on certain lines along with cutting some other smaller overheads but it’s important for us to be as competitive on price as possible.

Research by the Centre for Retail Research and online shopping group Kelkoo has suggested that retail sales will fall by about £2.2bn in the first three months of the year as a result of the rise in VAT (source http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-12110945).

Hopefully you will find that our website is still one of the most competitively priced fancy dress websites online today, however, we have no problems in listening to our customers and we will always try to price match our products to other websites.
